Treatment Faqs
You have questions; we have the answers. You have challenges; we have the solutions. You want to know more; we’re more than happy to help. Our section below addresses frequently asked questions regarding our services and will help you learn more about our treatments and procedures.
If you are unhappy with the shape of your teeth, such as having mildly misaligned or gappy teeth, here at North Lane Dental Practice we can help you! We can offer you one of our bespoke cosmetic bonding packages, encouraging a speedy and less invasive treatment to having braces, or even porcelain veneers. We can reshape your teeth using a composite bonding process, where we use tooth-coloured material to cover and shape your teeth, revamping your smile to meet your smile goals!
Composite bonding treatments are hugely popular, in that composite is far more conservative than Porcelain, though porcelain also gives a wonderful result! Transforming your smile using composite bonding is a single-day treatment. This means once you have had your dental health exam, hygiene, and whitening treatment (along with any restorative work I.e., fillings if needed), we can transform your smile in a matter of hours!
Composite bonding can fix the smallest imperfections to rebuilding broken down teeth. The treatment does not damage your original teeth, it is also completely pain-free, with no needles or drilling! The composite bonding treatment can also be used to whiten teeth, making your smile appear straighter and healthier.
Porcelain veneers are one of the most effective ways to reshape teeth and make them appear straighter and more symmetrical. By removing a very thin layer of tooth, we’re able to alter any imperfections or misshapen edges so that they appear neater once the veneer is applied. By having veneers applied, your teeth can be fully reshaped. Whether it’s porcelain veneers or composite, your teeth will also appear whiter as any discolouration will be concealed.
Porcelain Veneers are a good, long-lasting option to have the shape of your teeth altered as the procedure can be completed relatively quickly and in the case of porcelain veneers, they can last up to 10 years plus (individual cases vary).
Braces work by realigning your natural teeth into a more desired position. If you are unhappy with the shape of your teeth, composite bonding or porcelain veneers will be considered. Braces are a longer-term solution to straightening your teeth and are sometimes required before Composite or Porcelain to achieve the best possible result! The benefits of having braces, however, is that once you have completed your treatment and your teeth have moved into their desired position, you won’t need any maintenance appointments like you would with composite bonding treatments.
Invisalign is a clear removable brace system that realigns the teeth, by having a series of aligners that you can change into every 1 – 2 weeks! Invisalign is almost invisible, perfect for those who do not wish for the entire world to know they are having braces! You can easily remove your clear brace for meals, brushing your teeth and only occasionally, on social events!
The aligners are custom made using the latest 3D printing technology, along with the Smart Force Attachments, which are placed directly onto the teeth, (case depended), to encourage rotation and effective tooth movement. Each case is unique in how long it takes to complete your treatment, treatment time is based on individual complexities. Invisalign is suitable for most cases.
Cleaning your Invisalign is just as important as cleaning your teeth. Bacteria can build up in the retainer just as it can on your teeth and if left uncleaned, could damage your dental health. Therefore, when you brush your teeth daily, you must also clean your retainer in between wearing it. The process is straightforward and easy enough for anyone to do without too much trouble.
Firstly, you must rinse your retainers to remove any excess saliva or potential debris. Next, you should brush your retainers, paying extra attention to the inside of the tray which is in contact with your teeth. It is important that you use a soft-bristled brush – different to the one you brush your teeth with, so you don’t damage the aligner. Rinse the aligner with cold water (remember warm or hot water can melt the aligner or cause the aligner to reshape). We recommend cleaning your case too, to prevent any bacteria build up.
We also recommend typical high street shop bought retainer cleaners, always check with us first if you are unsure!
Whilst straightening your teeth, we cannot guarantee you will not feel anything. Whilst Invisalign is not as invasive as the traditional metal fixed braces, it is possible you may experience discomfort whilst the teeth are moving. This is very normal and should subside quickly. Try and wear your retainer in the first few days as much as possible, to allow your teeth, tongue, and gums to understand the process. If your discomfort becomes a little too much, you can ease any soreness by sticking to softer foods, drinking cool water, and over-the-counter pain medication. If this discomfort does not subside, it is important you let us know right away so that we can arrange an appointment for you with your dentist.
Your dentist will discuss the options available to you at length in the consultation process and ensure that we proceed with a treatment plan that works for you.
The answer is absolutely! Although, our recommendation is that you straighten your teeth first, as once a dental implant has been placed, you cannot move it. This in turn, may compromise your final result. Regarding your wisdom teeth, as long as they are healthy and in a good position, we can continue to straighten your teeth using Invisalign, (wisdom teeth do not affect the process).
By wearing your night-time retainer as instructed by your dentist, your teeth will remain in their desired, final position. As the teeth are naturally mobile, refraining from wearing your night-time retainer, may result in your teeth moving back to their original position. If you are unsure as to whether you are following the correct after care guidelines, please contact us for advice!
We feel strongly that every one of our patients deserves an experience that exceeds their expectations, from the start of their journey to being supported throughout.

Composite bonding is the process of applying tooth coloured material to the teeth in order to repair or enhance them in both colour and shape. This type of treatment is favoured by many as it is a very conservative treatment, in that there is no preparation to the teeth, unless your dentist has treatment planned otherwise.
In most cases, the entire tooth is covered with the composite material giving the effect of Porcelain Veneers. This is best used to achieve optimal results, allowing the teeth to appear more symmetrical and whiter.
Composite bonding can be offered as one of our bespoke cosmetic packages, which is one of our most popular options for treatment. The treatment is quick, will not damage the natural tooth and is pain free. Once applied, the teeth can be sculptured into your desired shape, achieving your perfect smile!
An alternative to composite bonding is porcelain veneers, as they are similar in appearance. Typically, composite veneers will last up to 3-5 years whereas porcelain veneers can last up to 10 years, providing results for a longer period of time. (Please know, all cases vary and depending on your diet, lifestyle and how you adhere to our aftercare guidelines, your treatment could last an exceptionally long time!) Porcelain veneers are not as conservative as Composite. During the procedure for porcelain, your tooth/teeth are prepared, meaning enamel removable, ready for the porcelain to cement onto the natural tooth.
Here at North Lane Dental Practice, we can offer you discounted, best value composite packages. If during your initial consultation you are advised to have composite without Invisalign first, then we simply book you in for a dental health exam, whereby we will assess your dental and oral health to ensure you are ready to start your treatment. Considering you are dentally fit, we would start by taking impressions of your teeth, ready for your whitening trays to come back in around 2 weeks’ time. In 2 weeks’, time, we will book you in for a hygiene appointment, during the appointment your clinician will handover your whitening kit and explain the dos and don’ts to achieve the best possible result. You will whiten your teeth of an evening, or over night for around 2 weeks. Then we allow 2 weeks prior to you coming back for your Composite appointment. During your composite appointment, your dentist will discuss with you, the shape and style along with the procedure. Depending on the number of teeth you have composite bonded, will depend on the amount of time the appointment will take to complete. For around 6-10 teeth your appointment could take around 3-4 hours. Each case is individual and only an initial consultation will confirm the entirety of your treatment plan and what to expect.
Composite bonding cannot be whitened. We ensure you are happy with your natural tooth shade before applying composite, so that you can achieve the whitest possible result by matching the composite to your teeth.
Knowing whether composite treatment is right for you or not all comes down to your understanding of what will actually take place and how it can benefit you. To help you understand which treatment is the best for you, we offer guidance and advice during a consultation. As experts in what we do, you will be sure to receive the best possible plan for you!
Our experienced, resolute, and knowledgeable dental implantologist will determine a treatment plan for you during a consultation. Whereby an assessment will confirm if an implant is viable and the exact costs.
Dental implants start from around £2,225 per implant. While this may seem expensive it is important to know we offer finance packages to help spread the cost and remember, dental implants are the best possible treatment for replacing gaps and missing teeth.
Generally, implants can last up to 20-30 years, usually longer if good hygiene is adhered to.. Once your dental implant is placed, your implantologist will advise you on how to look after your implant(S). While they are typically long-lasting, it is important to maintain high levels of dental hygiene to avoid having to undergo maintenance, or even replacement. Following the aftercare guidelines, and visiting your dentist every 6 months, will help to guarantee the longevity of the implant. Equally, avoiding poor lifestyle choices will help too.
Each individual case is unique in the healing process, Typically, the healing process can take anywhere between 3 – 12 months. During this time, you can have a denture to replace the missing tooth while your implant heals. We will ensure your new implant matches the rest of your teeth to give you an aesthetically pleasing smile. For more information, please call our practice to arrange your dental implant consultation.
