What Does Teeth Whitening Do?
Teeth whitening is mostly about colour. A whitening treatment uses a bleaching agent to lighten the shade of teeth and remove certain stains. So if your teeth look yellowish or have darkened over time whitening is usually the direct choice.
Whitening doesn’t reshape a tooth. It won’t close a gap or fix a chipped corner.. It won’t cover a deep structural mark that doesn’t respond well to bleaching.
When Whitening Makes Sense
• A brighter smile without changing the tooth’s shape.
• For surface staining though deeper discoloration may need a different treatment.
• You keep your teeth exactly as they are which is honestly a big part of the appeal.
What Does Composite Bonding Do?
Composite bonding takes a route. A tooth-coloured resin is applied to the tooth. Shaped by a dentist. It can change how the tooth looks by adding material where its needed.
That makes bonding useful for chips or uneven edges. It can also improve the appearance of gaps. If one tooth looks shorter than the others bonding can sometimes bring the shape back into balance.
Composite Bonding, vs Teeth Whitening
• Whitening changes colour. Bonding changes the shape of the tooth.
• Bonding can. Rebuild a small cosmetic defect while whitening leaves the tooth’s structure alone.
Which One Should You Choose?
Start with the problem. If you look in the mirror and think, “My teeth are fine, just too dark ” whitening is the place to start. If you think, “That one tooth doesn’t look right ” bonding deserves a look.
If you’re choosing purely for a brighter smile I’d lean toward fixing the colour before changing the shape. There’s no reason to add composite to a tooth when a simple whitening treatment already solves what bothers you.
